Church of the Resurrection

The Ressurrection church ( late 17th c.) is another masterpiece of Russian stone architecture. The distinctive features of this church are the snow-white colour of the walls, graceful proportions, and the beautiful architectural ornamentation executed in the original style developed by Kargopol masons and named “Kargopol tracery”. The carving of the apses and windows is executed ( according to the tradition ) by different masters, so the patterns of the ornament never repeat. Each window is decorated in an individual manner, according to a master’s peculiar vision and fancy.
